5 speed starter motor - 6 speed gearbox?
I am about to start a 6 speed conversion on my V5 STI RA Ltd. I thought I had everything I required until my mechanic mentioned about the starter motor. I am using my current 5 speed flywheel and expensive clutch as it has less than 2000 miles on it. I thought 5 speed starters worked with the 5 speed flywheel but from what I have researched it is only some 5 speed starters that work. David @ API describes the ones that work as 'open nose' style but unfortunately that means nothing to me. If I had the 2 styles side by side then perhaps that would make sense!!
Does anyone have pictures of the 2 types and know which one works? That way when my starter comes out I can check to see if it is one that will work or not. Do the ones that work come from any certain year of car? If mine doesn't work then I will have the problem of trying to decribe which one I want to Subaru breakers!!
Tim.

That's what I thought, but it seems there is a type of 5 speed starter that doesn't work. Sods law says the its the type fitted to mine - just to be bloody awkward!!

All sorted!
6 speed has just been removed from the donor car - it was also using a 5 speed flywheel so the starter from that will 100% fit!
On Monday the coversion will be started!
