Question

Good idea or not?

I already have the full scoobysport and have been offered a PPP ECU (in exchange for mine)

Reccommendations?

On the >=MY01 I understand you need the uppipe too with PPP for safe ignition timing.

Chucks' advice was the most sensible - talk to Pete Croney as he did quite a bit of work on this a while back. Put simply, he put a PPP ECU onto a car with a de-cat Scoobysport exhaust (but with a factory uppipe) and tested it on a rolling road. With this combination he was running 11 degrees of additional retard from the ECU at max power. Given that the ECU can only retard by 12 degrees max he felt that there was not sufficient safety margin! Changing the uppipe for a de-cat one allowed the ECU to run 3 - 4 degrees less retard, giving back a sensible safety margin.

However, I would suggest that you also take into account D T-S's experiences with uppipes, and John Banks' opinions on ECUs. Fitting the de-cat uppipe is a bitch - it took me about 4 hours to do and I am reasonably handy with the spanners. IIRC Scoobysport quote about 2.5 hours to change it, so it is not a cheap swap.

LOL @ Davyboy !

On a more serious note, do you have a vent to atmosphere dump valve? If not, you won't get flames. On my car I only get flames if I change the plumbing on my dump valve to atmospheric and not recirculation. You will get more noise with the de-cat uppipe though!

If the MY01 uppipe is like the MY00 one but made even worse by a cat it is a purely evil creation, and if there is a way to get rid of it jump at the change, especially in this situation. We had the manifolds, uppipe, turbo and downpipe off at the weekend for some "fun", and the uppipe is a truly horrible piece of sleeved crap. Not at all a small job to change!
