What's this foam thingie
#1
On the left hand side (car is UK MY97) around the inner wing there are quite a few grey pipes that go to solenoid and other places I don't know but between 1 of the pipes there is a foam filter type thing (I'm not to technical). It's about the size of a 50p and about 2cm's wide and round. It looks very knackered and I'd like to know what it is and if it should be replaced regularly. Thanks for the help, could really do with a manual.

I believe that they are 'Denso' one way valves. They have foam around the outer edge to eliminate rattles and keep other hot bits away from it. I would not worry about changing them unless you have a potential boost prob.
However, rather than buy new, I would probably then try and flush them out anyway, along with the boost hoses and solenoid with brake cleaner.
Hope this helps...
