After a run (165 mph) on a private road in his WRX, he hit the rev limiter and the engine went pop!! Loads of smoke, but the car then started, but ran like a pig.
He's now got oil pissing out his dump valve and induction kit
Any ideas ? Can't be a piston / big end as the car sounds reasonably ok...

Check the plugs. If a piston/s has gone, one, or more of the plugs will be very oily.
I doubt it's the turbo, does sound like a piston though.
