Gearstick not spring back from the right, HELP

Gearstick not spring back from the right, HELP
94wrx Wagon
Gear stick will spring back to centre from the LEFT BUT not from the RIGHT.
I`v searched the forums and can only find posts about gearstick not springing back from the left (spring missing).
But mine will not return from the RIGHT. I have changed the complete gear linkage and still no luck. Can anyone tell me what makes the gearstick return to centre from the right. I hope its not inside the gearbox..
