New Exhaust
#1
Hi, im thinking about putting a a performance exhaust on my scooby (Jetex), they do 2 systems, just back box and a full system. Any ideas what the difference is? My insurance company says i can do this assuming it does not increase the performance of the car. How can i tell? what would happen if i had to make a claim and they decide it does increase performance?

A performance exhaust will improve performance, although maybe not in the Jetex Scenario
Backbox will be . . . . just a backbox.
Full system will be from the downpipe back, depending on their idea of a full system.
Stick to Magnex or Scoobysport and defintely tell your insurance co If you don't, your neighbours will

thanks it does ;-), So Jetex not recommended then? ;-) so do i tell them 'it increases performance' and they go 'good, give us another 300 quid' then? coz 550 quid for exhaust and insurance hike up isnt sounding quite so tempting now ;(

Right, im off to their website to have a look ;-)
so a back box has negligible power increase (and therefore insurance increase ? is it worth getting the downpipe too then? anybody got any ideas on how much more insurance leaches will add too?

Backbox will give a small increase in power + bigger smile
Go the full monty if you can afford it though ! That'll give a low down greater power gain + a permanent smile
For a cat-back my insurance co wanted another £10 a month.

Tenner a month isnt too bad i suppose ;/
i take it a cat-back means the cat has been removed.. is this legal? Oh and if you dont mind me asking what have you got fitted to yours?

Oooh i am tempted! i am the downpipe is the bit im unsure of though, does it remove the cat? if so what happens around MOT time or spot emission checks (do they still do that?)? oh and the extra insurance side of things.. <worry, worry>

If you remove the cat chances are it will fail mot on exhaust emissions, just means swapping bits for mot. Not too sure whether you can be spot checked if you ever get pulled. Cat back is just the last bit of the exhaust leaving the cat (think there might be 2 cats but not too sure, I'm sure someone here will know). I've got just the magnex cat back and it sounds great, budget wouldn't stretch to system, few other mods as well. One of the threads a few weeks ago mentioned a replacement centre section without cat that still passed mot, think it was £300 ish. Hope some of this drivel helps.

There are 2 cats on the impreza. The main one is in the downpipe and the secondary one in the centre section. The Jetex system (and most other systems) remove the secondary cat , but the car will still pass its mot no problem. If you change the downpipe and the centre, you'll have trouble at mot time
