I've just noticed that I'm getting a *little* smoke from my engine that appears to be comming from the back of the turbo, unfortunately the source appears to be covered by the heat shield.
It's not exhaust gases as it continues when the engine is off but still hot. Should I be worried or is this something you see from time to time perhaps from some crap getting between the heat shield and the turbo? It smoke smells a little rubbery to me - I can't see any sign of oil and my oil levels are constant as ever.
I noticed this yesterday and I can't say I've seen any today, I assume you get a constant oil pressure to turbo when driving so if it was a leak I would expect to see it all the time - yeah??
Should I be overly concerned?
cheers

Your oil feed to your turbo could also be leaking... I wouldnt accept they all do that... get it fixed before it catches fire.

My oil feed to the turbo was leeking onto the turbo and heatshield. Changed the copper washers but still leaked so used some locktight to seal the thread on the bolt and it seems to have done the job.

The answer appears to be the cam/crank/cam covers are all leaking a bit. The cam / crank seal will be the first to be done as I'm told this may be contaminating my cam belt...
cheers for all the suggestions
