Strange noise!?
Hi all. I picked up my 2007 Hawkeye STI on Thursday. Went out in it today for it's first proper run since owning it. I noticed that the R. diff temperature light was flickering on and off and that just turned out to be a bit of rust on the earth connection from the sensor on the rear diff. The only other thing which is worrying me is that when going into second gear, either up from first or down from third there seems to be some sort of whining noise. It goes into second gear fine but just makes this noise. Just to add, i'm not thrashing the vehicle when I hear the noise. Has anyone on here ever experienced this before? If so, is it normal or did it turn out to be something major?

Oh right. Thanks for replying so quickly to my thread mate. I was really starting to panic thinking my clutch was on its way out or something! I think once you buy a car and you hear any sort of noise, you always think the worst and start to panic!

The diff temperature thing I managed to sort out. It was just a matter of cleaning the rust off the earth connection with a bit of fine sandpaper. I don't get the whining noise in any other gear apart from second. I Hear it most when going from third down to second when slowing down for junctions etc, or when going from first to second . It might just be me but it seems to get louder when I have been for a while.
