Dawes fuel consumption, long runs & more.......
#1
There has been lot's of talk about the Dawes and how it can improve both throttle response and power (through faster spool up and increased boost).
I would like to know (or least get an opinion) on a couple of things:
1, if I were to fit a Dawes and maintian the maximum boost at the same level as previously attained (15.5 PSI - MY01 with PPP), would the improved throttle response be worthwhile?
2, if fitted as above, will there be a noticeably increased risk of melting things (from either end!) on a prolonged part throttle run (e.g a long, say 100 mile, motorway jaunt)?
3, what's the impact on overall fuel consumption if the boost comes in sooner but still doesn't exceed previous levels?
Advice gratefully received.
Cheers,
Darren.

Fuel consumption goes right down lol - something to do with using your right foot more Seriously though, unless on a motorway run I rarely got much more then 20mpg absolute max....

Seems odd that your MY01 PPP is only making 15.5 PSI?
Fuelling in cruise conditions is controlled closed loop by your lambda sensor and should be no different if you stay in vacuum, but then you will come out of vacuum easier with the Dawes. Honestly depends on how you drive it. My wife can still get 30-35 mpg easy with mine running at 19 PSI - but she never floors it or goes over 3000 RPM, or gets anywhere near 19 PSI.

Thanks for the advice, it was pretty clear that the MPG would drop as the right foot went down......mine does an average of just under 24MPG, 18MPG on short trips
John,
What should my PPP'd '01 be making then?
As it clearly is below what you would expect, what would cause this?
Cheers,
Darren.
PS - it was my dealers technician that told me it was 15.5 PSI from the select monitor - is this reliable?

Ask some of the MY01 PPP guys maybe in a new post - there was a big MY01 PPP rolling road day at PE recently, but most PPPs make more like 16.5 PSI. Certainly the pre MY01s do, and the MY01 PPP claims more power and torque compared with the old whereas the standard car runs the same boost as the standard old shapes and I am sure MY01 PPP guys have been reporting more than this.
It seems many PPP old and knew are setup to the incorrect boost, and also that a lot of dealers do not know what they are doing with it. Mine didn't and I ended up sorting it myself.
