Default Type R with extended 5th gear?

What's the best/easiest/cheapest option to get a longer 5th in a V5 Type R?

Cheers

maybe taking out your box and having it modded with longer 5th as i think you will find it will cost a few quid buying a new box personally id leave it as it is as i think it upsets the balance of the box im sure one of the guys who has had it done will be able to tell you more good luck any way

So with a swapped 5th, is the jump from 4 to 5th too much?

Didn't realise the V6 Type R came with an extended 5th...

Is there any difference to the P1's 'box?

Doesn't the P1 have a different 4th as well?

Will the V6 R gearbox fit earlier versions?

Only V-limited sti's come with a taller 5th.

V6 box will fit earlier models. I have a V6 TY54 box fitted to a 93 wrx CDB
From memory I think earlier boxes TY52 have 6 bolts where as later TY54 boxes have 4 bolt but all 4 holes line up with the earlier engines.

I've read elsewhere that fitting a P1 gearbox into a car with DCCD isn't a straight swap.

My P1 gearbox is definitely different to my mates Type-R ver5 gearbox. The difference becomes massively noticeable from about 60-70mph onwards in 5th especially when cruising on the motorway.
