Default Converting GC8 to RWD question

I'm considering an engine/transmission swap on a MY96 RA and was wondering if it's just a case of removing the front driveshafts or do you need to keep the outer parts to keep the hubs together? I haven't looked into it yet as I only collected the car today, so any pointers would be grand. I don't need gearbox etc info as it'll be a RWD engine and box setup getting dropped in.

Also if anyone has any good methods of getting more steering lock once it's RWD, I'm all ears

Hi Mitch,

Noticed you been looking @ this on driftworks.

I'm in the process of buying an impreza with the view of going RWD.

If you can get hold of a FWD impreza steering rack that will give more angle if you find 1 see if they have 2

What engine & trans you looking at? i suspect you have an SR lying about dont you? there is somebody on DW putting a SR into a bug eye

Sure its been done.

You have to strip down the box, remove the centre diff and shafts to the front diff (leaving it in place), the centre diff gets welded up and refitted, think there is a solid centre diff you can buy too.

I've heard about people using a FWD rack, but cheers for the tip. You're right first time about the engine, as I have quite a few SR20 bits at my place. I saw the bug eye one, just wondering if I'll do the front crossmember the same way.

It might not need too much modding for track use at the minute though because the missus spotted it at the unit and might fancy it as a road car, so I'll just do the conversion and leave power upgrades and lock mods etc for another time, depending on if she wants to keep it or not.

Cheers Jimbob but the Subaru engine and box are out and gone, and I'll be chopping the driveshafts down so I just have the hub ends.
