Angry

Not very happy with Tileys of Bristol at the moment am I justified?? Or just being unfair ??
Had above fitted on Saturday cost £141 pounds ???( inc gaskets)
Last year they charged me 40 quid labour plus gaskets when I pointed this out to them they said it was a mistake last year and its a two hour job if nothing goes wrong.

Any comments from any of you technical people ?
Or anyone that has had this done recently how much your dealer charge ?

Regards Jay

Downpipe should be a 2 hour job minimum - thats if it all goes well.
When mine was fitted the bolts sheared (common) & it took over 5 hours to fit !
Mid section - say half an hour very tops
Backbox - say 15 mins tops

Should be looking at - with everything going OK - about 3 hours to fit the whole system.
So what you were charged seems spot on.

Hi Jay,

I've just had my backbox and centre replaced on my MY99 RB5. The backbox took just minutes; getting it up onto the ramp took longer

Since I bought the centre 2nd-hand, the guy fitted it for me. Again, it would only have taken minutes, but we were chatting and drinking a beer at the time, so that slowed things down a bit

The only hassle fitting these was sheering a couple of the bolts. He did say that the downpipe is a bit of a barsteward to fit as some of the manufacturing tolerances can be pretty cr@p. So you could buy two downpipes from the same manufacturer and one will fit perfectly and the other might be a complete c*nt.

So, how many hours labour did you get for your 140 quid? I think my Dealer charges £22+VAT per hour.

Yep, 2 hours seems about right, as Ro says, if you get problems it is usually on the D/P turbo bolts/studs.

Usually worse on older cars as the constant and extreme heat cycling has several consequences.

1) It 'welds' the nuts/bolts together.
2) It causes the nut/bolt heads to go undersized.

When the bolts go undersized, they've usually done both 1 & 2 as above, consequently, the 14mm socket is too big and ends up rounding off the corners of the bolts.

We now routinely keep in stock both nuts bolts and studs as a result of (unavoidably) destroying so many during removal.

Stefan, if "your dealer" is a main dealer, that hourly rate is wrong! I'm fairly sure our local main dealer charges circa £60.00 per hour.
We currently charge £25.00 per hour.

Mike.

Thanks for the comments Tileys charge £60 an hour which I did think is a bit dear. I got charged for 1 3/4 hrs labour plus parts. Maybe their labour rate is expensive ?

Should have gone to scoobysport / scoobymania or suchlike in hindsight as their labour is much cheaper. I certainly will next time and just use the dealers for servicing and warranty work.

When TSL did my DP, one of the bolts sheared off. Took about 2 hours IIRC - not got my bill to hand as I'm at work.

Hmm, maybe you're right guys and I'm talking bo!!ocks. I'll need to double-check my invoices, but I'm sure my original Dealer didn't charge anywhere near £60. Currently with AF Noble and only had the 30K service, so don't honestly know what they charge.

when I removed my down pipe I had to weld a new nut to the stud as it was that badly damaged.. also used heat on the top nuts.. and two big snap-on spanners... without the right tools I wouldnt recommend doing it to anyone!! so probably is worth the money!!

Let someone else hurt there knuckles.. and burn their hands

(used both there and their as im thick and cant be bothered thinking as Im at work! )
