hi all, just joined this site hoping to pick your big brains, all help will be greatly appreciated.

i have a bike engined mini that has a subaru rear diff of some sort, im unable to find out what it has come from therefor unsure as what shafts to buy.

the code on the diff are:

painted on the side and top is 'TR'

unfortunitly i cant get the diff out of the car unless i drop the subframe it seems to have been built around it :/. other codes:

identical to the smaller on the left, as i look through the shaft inserts i can see three seperate splines, one eatherside and one central. hope this helps

If its the smaller diff then you have an R160 diff and all the rear R160 shafts are the same regardless of classic or newage. So basically almost any classic or newage 5 speed Impreza. The only thing to be careful of is most of the Type R's had the R180 diff fitted which uses differennt shafts.

oh thanks, much appreciated mate. would the shafts vary depending on lsd etc? just iv noticed theres three drive splines inside the diff shaft holes, central one having a smaller drive spline then the outer two?? sorry just dont have a clue and want to buy the wrong shafts thats all.

Viscous coupled LSD shafts are longer with an extra set of splines as they provide the link, sounds like you have a VC. You'll need VC shafts.

Be warend the LSD action is very soft, you'll probably be better off with a plate type long term.

oh i see! good new i think?. i have located some shafts that look right, have the longer double spline just waiting on delivery then with any luck they'l pop straight in. another pick of your brains..... what do you think the chances are of mating mx5 shafts to impreza inner cv's? im hoping it wont be a machine job as iv been told £100 per shaft
