Used to have an ITG on my MY00 but got cold feet following a couple of posts suggesting they contaminated the somewhat sensitve MAF sensor on the MY00. Anyway feeling brave again as the dust seems to have settled on that one, so which is the one to go for:

- ITG
- HKS
- K&N
- OTHER???

Any views much appreciated.

Cheers,

Otis.
(Would have used search if it was working, sorry guys)

From what I've read on scoobynet most people use ITG or KN without any problems. I've a KN and the car is still going strong.

The K&N is an oiled cotton gauze type.

ITG seems fine and goo free if you fit it properly and make sure it is seated properly in the airbox and not squashed. I have seen NO goo at all (but it had a few thousand miles on it before I got it).

Apparently most freer flow filters give roughly the same performance increase when new. But according to SS website the ITG maintains a higher flow for longer, i.e. as the crap that's collecting builds and builds over the years, others would have blocked up or become severely restricted, but the ITG stays freer flow. I think it can take 3 times the amount of dust at least as most filters whilst maintaing filtration and flow characteristics.

That's from a MIRA panel filter test anyway on the SS website...

cheers

Spence,

Oh what did you go and say that for. I had just decided on a K & N as I have had an ITG and it was 'goo' city. Cheers, I will have a look at the Scoobypsort MIRA thing.

Decisions, decisions..........

goo ... yuk!!

I changed back to std filter... car seemed to not have a difference.... well.. maybe a bit better on the idle i feel... tho maybe coz the maf sensor is cleaning itself slowly

never ever ever getting a goo type filter for a hot wire maf sensor car again.. ever ever ever...

Thumbs up

I have tried several pannel filters & done numerous tests including rolling road all on the same day(s) & acceleration tests.
I concluded there was nothing to choose between K+N& ITG but these two were demonstrably ahead of some others.
