Question

What difference would it make in replacing only the centre section with something like a Scoobysport De-Cat centre pipe? What will the improvement be in torque and power and more importantly on turbo spool up? It seems that the Cat is quiet restrictive. I guess there should also be a difference in the noise but it shouldnt be nearly as loud as a straight through backbox.

Edited to add: this is on a MY00 Turbo

I changed backbox (WR Sport), downpipe (Scoobysport) and centre (Magnex resonated), in that order.

In my setup the centre accentuated the noise from the backbox a bit and seems to help with torque low down and free-revving at the top end.

However, if you want to keep a cat, IMHO you'd be better to change the downpipe and leave the centre in.

Cheers

I had a standard downpipe and centre-section, with scoobysport backbox.

Just changed the centre to a 3" straight thru pipe, and a much bigger tail box.

Mine is very noisy.

However, the ECU is gradually releasing more power. The low-down torque, etc seems little different, but beyond 4,000rpm it's still pulling real hard - It's much faster at high speeds.

The beauty of leaving the downpipe alone, is that there should be no problem with overboost, and you should still pass the MOT for emmissions...

Question

Squizz,

What centre did you fit? Is that a SS backbox in your SAS post?

A downpipe is nice and gives good gains but its double the price and a much bigger job to swop out.

Exclamation

I was surprised at the OE centre pipe & cat versus my new centre-section. No wonder it's restrictive!
