Anyone got a Blitz filter
#1
Just about to buy one and wanted some opinions. I was going for the HKS filter but Jamie from performance exhausts has advised the Blitz. I'm a new scooby owner, 4 weeks and really need help on mods. Any comments greatly appreciated as I'm buying one soon. Just don't know whick
Cheers for the help

Hi.
I've had one for a couple of years now with no problems. You only get one bracket with it and it's better to make a second one to keep it really steady and also the bolt holes on the mounting plate on mine needed re-drilling to the right spacing but other than that it was straightforward to fit. I removed it a short while ago to check the inlet pipes after some of the scare stories about poor filtration and they were spotless . My car is a MY98 but I wouldn't fit it to a MY99 or later due to MAF failure problems they have due to their different design.

I personally would not now fit any induction kit to a MY99/00 if I was still using a MAF sensor (ie on the standard ECU). Call me paranoid, but the MAF is fragile and crucial at the same time = don't mess in my book.
I did have a K&N 57i on for a few months but it was loud and not any quicker. Some reap the results with a remap to avoid the lean spots they can cause. My car was slightly slower on the original Subaru panel filter, but brisker again with an ITG panel, although some say there are goo issues. Had my airbox out today and there is not a trace of goo about related to my (properly fitted) ITG. But there are no guarantees.
I have now heard of failures with Blitz, HKS and one with K&N induction kits. Of course it can also go with the standard panel filter. There have also been issues with Ramair panels on MY99/00.
IMHO, there are better ways to unlock performance on a lightly modded car.

Cheers for the advice John and Raymond, still none the wiser. Don't know what to buy and the cash is burning a hole in my pocket. My car is still un-modded and could stay this way for a while.

Had a blitz on my wrx for 2.5 years, 20k miles and had no probs at all (except for blown head gaskets, and it would be harsh to blame the air filter for that! ). I wouldn't fit one to a later scoob with the hot film type air flow meter though.

Had a Blitz on my STiV for 1200 miles... and the brand new MAF was .... very sick!! i.e. stuffed. Still mine is a 1999 and the MAF is fragile (diaphram type).
The Blitz is still on now but with a new ecu and the MAF and Lambda are not needed.
