Default uk my00 gearbox options

Hi there

What is my gearbox options for the classic W 2000 if i need to change it.
Got a wining noise now in 5th, seems to be quite noticable all time now.
Doesnt make any difference on or off power or coasting.

Am i right in thinking this is a common fault?

Im guessing this is a bearing getting noisy?

I no its a hard thing to pin point over web but any help is appreciated, like common stuff or things to check or look out for.

Cheers in peeps

if you are staying under 350lbs\ft you should be fine with a sti5\6\P1 box, up to 450lbs\ft and straight cut PPG, over that and up to 550\600lbs\ft a newage 6 speed box.

The early 6 speed (2.0 variants), had quite close ratios which not everyone likes...the later 6 speed (Hawkeye and Forrester), boxes first five gears are not dissimilar to classic five speeds.
