If I remove my standard dump valve and block the pipes, will this give me the sound like the Rally car chatter or will it kill my turbo?? or both.

Cheers

What level of boost are you running? Certainly you'll get better performance going through the gears (if you're quick), and reduce the life of your turbo.....but no one really knows by how much (higher boost, less life - I would also think higher boost = more likely to get chatter...isn't this noise the blades?).

Are you going to test for us?

I'm running sans BOV right now on a VF24...HKS FMIC install, long story. I'm going to sort the BOV today.

I've found that it produces chatter when closing the throttle below .5 bar...anything above that and you'll get a scream-ish kinda noise - I should add that I haven't "dumped" it, nor run it above 1 bar yet...can't afford a new turbo right now.

I am running 1.25bar for the last 16 months without any problems, but I don't think I will remove the DV as I like my turbo and would hate to see it in millions of pieces.

Cheers

Im sure that if the car didn't need the dump valve Subaru or any other manufacturer wouldn't put them on in the first place. You take you turbo's life in your hands....

Most of them are there to remove unwanted sounds though...so is the snorkus on the intake.
I hardly think any of the modern makes would like their cars to sounds like pneumatic bus brakes venting. *lol*

The BOV removes the stress of the turbo when the throttle is shut...and rumour says that you need a ballbearing one...sadly enough the rumour also says the VF series are all to weak to withstand this (ab)use.

/J - with a new shiny BOV on the desk.

i removed my dump valve ages ago, and is running higher boost (chip/exhaust/filter etc).
mine chatters like hell and sounds brill coming through the pipercross induction.
yes, the noise is the air backing up and cutting over the blades of the compressor wheel.
it is a damn sight faster through the gears too
