Hello there my mate who dont have access to the web has asked me to find out from you lot whether or not the Blitz de-cat pipe and induction kit are worth it!
he has been told they will give in the region of 60bhp, of which both of us are very doubtfull
his car is a 98 (upgraded to RB5 spec supposedly by prodrive)
cheers

Don't know about the blitz DP but you're right, 60bhp isn't right! More like 20 if you're lucky, I think.
And the RB5 was a special edition - unlikely to be 'upgraded' to Might be PPP though?

Missed a bit - the induction kit Very little power gain, but helps top-end breathing & noise... Blitz seems to get very mixed 'reviews' - some very happy, some not at all - appears to occassionaly break the MAF sensor, but only on the 99+ models - earlier ones are tougher.

No ididnt mean upgraded in looks just the engine- suposedly the same as an RB5 prodrive- ie 245 bhp 0-60 in just over five- it feels trhat fast although i aint been out in a standard one

I'd be very warey of any claim for that sort of power increase. De-catting the exhaust will increase the power, but those sort of gains require a re-map and/or an increase in boost.
The fitting of the induction kit without remapping the ECU oftens results in a loss of mid-range power (the MAF under reads the airflow and hence leans out the mixture).

hello, i was about to get a de-cat pipe and induction kit fitted but i'm not so sure now. I spoke to a subaru specialist who said that it wouldn't require re-mapping or to be set up again but i don't know how true this is. Has anyone fitted these mods to their car to let me know if they are worth the money or hassel.

'Classic' type: decat definately fine, certainly if it's the only mod. Induction kit can cause problems, especially on MY99+ as mentioned above.
'Bug-eye': decat makes the car overboost. Quite a bit of discussions around about it... no idea on the induction kit
The decat improves the drive of the car quite a bit, don't think I've heard of anyone not thinking it's worthwhile once they've had it done. The induction kit seems more variable - quite a few people remove the thing, as all it seems to add is noise. Of course, if that's what you want, great . Leans out the mixture a bit, which is the problem - but the car heavily overfuels anyway.

So i should be ok with the de cat pipe then. When you say the car over fuels anyway what exactly do you mean, bad fuel consumption? can the car be set up to correct this and if it can it shouldn't make too much difference if there is an induction kit fitted should it.
also are dumpvalves of any benefit other than aural pleasure?

Yes, fitting the downpipe "can" cause over-boosting, but if it occurs it can be cured by changing the size of the restrictor.
Boyner25
The problem with the changed airflow characteristics past the MAF caused by fitting an induction kit is that it is not consistent across the rev range - the problem occurs mainly in the mid range. People tend to find that they lose power at this point and sometimes suffer poor running.
Dump valves are mainly for aural pleasure, but some reckon that they improve the response on gear changes. Oh yes, and if you run a full de-cat and a dump to atmosphere dump valve you will get flames ...

cheers for that, flames are a bit max power but funny none-the-less. What is there available out there to be getting a rliable 350bhp, i have been told that fitting cosworth pistons make a big difference to the performance but i am wary about that, is there any other means that i can achieve decent power hikes. The car at the moment has the prodrive performance pack but that is it. I will now be fitting a decat pipe but only replacing the air filter element.
any suggestions welcome.
