Im a bit confused between exactly what the difference is between LSD and DCCD. DCCD can alter the drive balance front/rear so I understand, but what does LSD do?
Could someone explain in simple terms for a simple mind??

i think in really simple terms the DCCD give user control (Electronicly) over the amount of slip on the centre diff

As Hodgy said the DCCD is just an LSD where the limited slip function is controlled electronically, also (unlike the VC centre diff subaru's) it has a rear biased torque split which is better for handling - although Hardly radical as Fords XR4x4 had a rear biased torque split in 1984! (with a VC)

All makes sense thank you guys.
So do all classic turbos have LSD rear diffs or just the sti/ra's? I presume type r's/p1 etc are the only classic to have DCCD?
Basically I've got a 96 uk turbo and i'm getting an sti box with lsd so intrigued to know what im getting ;-)

All classic turbo's have a rear LSD, either VC or in the case of R/RA's plated.

Only R/RA's got DCCD, P1 did not as until DCCD-A its incompatable with ABS.

So in a non DCCD car, a classic say, does the centre diff actively work?

It is a limited slip diff, yes, but if by "active" you mean "variable", no. The centre diff on non-DCCD cars is viscous coupled and not externally adjustable.

So its basically fixed in its split of power/ toque? I wondered if it varied the split on its own at all- very clear I cant adjust it.
