Hey all, just fitted a de cat pipe and apexi hybrid turbine to my motor. I seem to be getting lots of popping and like a juddering under load every now and then. It's hard to explain but it kinda hold's off judders and then full boost comes on, the problem seems to be intermittent.
I have reset the ecu, changed the fuel and cleaned out the standard boost solenoid to no avail. It's only started this after changing over to these bits, the only thing that's not on is the oxygen sensor as this was seized in the old downpipe but i've been assured this will not affect anything on the car.
I don't suppose anyone has any idea what's going on? long shot I know but worth the effort.
The boost is between 0.5 bar and 0.8 bar depending on how it's feeling. Other mods are hks exhaust and filter.

Exactly, i belive these were not made after MY96.
Town end leave them off on all pre 96 downpipes.
Anyone any further comment regarding the oxygen sensor?

So you've got a standard ECU, a hybrid turbo and no lambda sensor ?
:-)
Please confirm you're not winding us up, before we continue.
If not, please tell us who sold you that combo ?

Steve, it's not the lambna sensor it's the oxygen sensor these are different bit's mate. My lambna sensor is on the front of the exhaust near the crossmember not on the downpipe. After 96 the oxygen sensors were done away with.
This is not a wind up i'm running a import wrx with a apexi turbo, whats the problem with that? I'm not after a ecu as i don't want mad power. I'm just going to get a boost controller, and fuel meter probably avcr and afc units.
Just you leave my post count outa this..

Nope defo told that it's a oxygen sensor, the lambna sensor is still there. Could be a temp probe though, it's situated on downpipe near the cat? Would this affect the car under load though?
Ecu showing no faults so cannot be that important.

I don't, i've been assured that this would not affect the car. Someone mentioned that if it didnt need it, it wouldnt be there.
I havent got a clue what it is, but it's only started doing it since changeover so somethings causing it.

Hmmmm, I have always resisted having mine rolling roaded with it being a WRX, maybe I am too over protective over my car, but I don't fancy holding it at peak revs in fifth for a while.
Would be interesting to see your results though
When was your car last serviced?

A while ago, gotta be 6 months. That was just oil, filter and plug change. Must change cam belt it's only just turned 42,000 miles though.
The specialist thinks its some air leak or the boost solinoid sticking, thought it was worth the ask on here though.

Crypt. 0.8 bar is the standard boost on a WRX for your MY. Chelle, if your boost is 1.1-1.2 bar then you are running above standard boost. Do you know why its at that level?
With regard to the popping and juddering I would have thought this could be down to the standard ECU not performing with the hybrid turbo. Your ECU could well be performing correctly but if your turbo is bigger and slower to spool up the the engine is getting considerably less air at certain revs than the ECU is expecting and may be causing you a few probs. You could do with someone more technically gifted than I to confirm but I would have thought you'd need a mappable ECU to run a turbo such as the Apexi unit.

I agree should hold better boost. Get it on a rolling road ASAP. BTW they don't hold engines on peak power in 5th gear ! Ignor the scaremongering and get it sorted by a professional ASAP..Could be costly if you don't.

Cheers dudes, I belive i can run this turbine sucessfully using a boost controller and air/fuel controller like afc/avcr units by apexi. Boost control is No1 priority at the moment. It's strange i've had no hold off today or judder, i'm sure it's a air leak or something.
B.t.w Disco, i think it's time you returned to the collective.
