It won't be the stake nut on 5th as this was a problem that happened on late classic 5spd boxes.
Idealy you need to get the latest "carbon coated" baulk rings fitted to cure your problem, but you could always try the oil change route first if you like.
The one thing you need to be consious of, is that every time you change gear with a crunch, you are not only causing wear/damage to the baulk ring you are also damaging both 5th gear and the 5th/6th hub assay. If you catch the problem early on then it is a case of replacing just the £20 baulk ring, but leave it for too long and you will find that you then need both a new 5th gear @ £120.00 and a new hub assay which will set you back another £170.00!!

Exactly as PeeVee says, couldn't have put it better myself, except that the carbon coated cones are just about 30 quid each.
Do it sooner rather than later. NO oil in the world will fix crunchy synchro. Good oil will delay it happening for some few thousand miles if fitted when new but after the problem starts it won't make the slightest difference.
We can fix it if you wish - but we aren't in Lincs.
