Noob scoob owner, noisy clutch / box??
Hi. I bought myself a UK turbo manual wagon today (M reg).
Took it for a test drive. All appeared ok on it, drove tight, completely factory car with seemingly nice strong stock performance and reasonable history, so I bought it.
A while after buying it I have found it has started to make a noise. In my limited opinion it sounds like it might be a clutch / flywheel /gearbox area sort of noise. It is a grumbly, slightly knocky, with a quiet underlying metallicy noise.
It only appears once the car is fully warmed up, changes in volume on/off throttle and slightly changes pitch with revs.
The noise doesnt appear to be there when just revving the engine out of drive.
I know its incredibly difficult to diagnose stuff like this through a vague written description but though it was worth an ask in case there's a common fault which this sounds similar to.
TIA.

This might help a little, build up revs in say 3rd waiting for the noise, put clutch in - does the noise go or not? Clutch out again, noise back? If so, very likely to be clutch, gearbox or something in drive system. Change the gearbox and diff oils if so and look for metal sump plug condition, use Castrol driveline 75w90.
Make sure this is in striaght line as that will show up mainly gearbox issue as wheel bearings will tend to make most noise on corners, not straights, unless they're about to fail.
