I have heard rumours about a recall for the MY01 STI / STI RA. Apparently, the shaft of the 6sp gearbox oil pump does not withstand high temps well. There's an improved shaft out.

Anyone else heard such?

If your car is between the following chassis #s you need to be checked out (it should be noted no one has crashed, they have only had one failure so far, but know this is a problem that won't go away on its own).

STi 4 door:fca-OOQOQQ ` fca-OOUSUP (650 cars)

STi wagons: ffa-OOQOPQ ` ffa-OOQQSR (4 cars)

fwiw, the issue is a batch of non-spec oil pump shafts (there is not an improved one out, just replacing with a shaft made to spec, and of course any damaged parts). Apparently heat treatment was not done properly on the shafts effected...

Hope this helps

Question

Is it just me or do those "numbers" not make any sense to anybody else?

AJbaseBloke, was that deliberate or was a funny character set used and it was lost in the translation?

Woops!! Sorry about that - I copied the numbers straight off the Subaru site (to prevent any mistakes by yourstruly ) - had not thought they would be in J-script (hence the blow up ).

I'll try that again:
4 doors: GDB-002022 thru GDB-006461

Wagons: GGB-002012 thru GGB-002243

Gomennasai!!

Wow, that's 4,670 cars affected then?

Edited to include:

I've had a look at the recalls section on Subaru japan web site, this recall relates to the Oil pump shaft located in the 6 speed Gearbox.

Mike.

I'll repeat for everyone's sanity, they tracked down the bad batch to 654 cars...(see the first post with the blown-up numbers ).

Anyway, if your car's chassis # falls in that range, it is not a bad idea to make some enquiries as to whether or not you are affected.

Cheers

Do the chassis #'s run sequentially? If there're only 600+ cars affected but the chassis # range suggests that its more like 4000+ cars, that means not all cars within the range are affected. (?)

I've only heard of one chap getting a call from the dealer informing him of this recall. Has anyone else received this call?
