Hi All,

I currently have a V2 STI 555 with a V2 STI RA Gearbox, like you can imagine, these gearbox's are not made for motorway's.

I want to put a longer 5th gear into the box so that I can travel abit at ease on lengthy journeys but also have the fun factor when I need it.

What would be my options please ??

5th gear from a UK car will do the job but the drop off will be bl@@dy awful.

 

I had thought about the UK 5th but that drop off is whats scaring me away from it.

What about changing 4th and 5th, would that work ??

 

5th gear is easy to change with a bit of mechanical knowledge.

I wouldnt do it though as the drive is rubbish, i built a good box out of 2 bad ones using an RA gear set and a wrx 5th (not as long as a uk 5th btw), the drop off to 5th was appalling, so much so it was sold after only a month in the car.

If you want a good balance i dont think you can go wrong with std wrx gearing. But in your case i reckon you would have to change the rear diff to get a decent selection of 2nd hand boxes.

Well I've decided to upgrade to a 4.444 rear diff and get a V4 STI RA box instead.

Though there is one thing I need to find out, will the 4.444 rear diff slot into the same holes on the rear subframe as the 3.9 ??
