Default WANTED ! GEARBOX HELP!!

I think i need a new gearbox and need 1 ASAP " TY752VN5BA "

Problems ......

Release bearing making a right horrible noise when pressing down the clutch pedal and goes as soon as the pedal is released ...

When letting off the throttle " in gear " and coming to a halt ive noticed a slight whine from what i believe to be the gearbox ???

Also the gear stick is very sloppy and loose " is ther a quick fix for this ???"

Please contact me with any info regarding this fault .....

Q: How big a job is it to change the gearbox without the aid of a ramp as ive never done 1 on anything like this

Q: Any1 know where i can get a cheap box and clutch kit from ???

Any info gratefully recieved just EMAIL me at

charlotte.drakard@yahoo.com

CHEERS JAY ........

well, if your willing to do the job your self. you could pick a box up quite cheap mate
i picked a p1 box up off e-bay with diff for £700
diden't really take to long to fit either.

get in touch with a breaker mate, for just check e-bay out
or even, put a thread in wanted. theres plenty of guys on here breaking cars

I would also look for a TY754 box instead of the TY752 box if I was you.

If you're after all your options, I would personally suggest giving David O'Brien at API a call. Even if it's just for some advice. When the gearbox in my old Scoob went in Dec. 2007, he was the first gentleman I called. Ran me through all the available options (on a budget) and offered some sterling advice. In the end I decided on API building me a recon gearbox (£900) and I had Jason @ Scoobybits (then in rotherham, now in Cornwall) do the fitting. Including a new clutch, the stripping of the old box and fitting of the new one, and a full service bar cambelt, it came to approx £750. So all in about £1650. But if you were to buy a gearbox second hand and not have a recon one built and a new clutch, I hazard a guess it will be much cheaper for yourself.

Goodluck, but call David as suggested, what he doesn't know about gearboxes isn;t worth knowing - honestly.

1650 for a gearbox job and a oil filter and plug change ???

900 to recon a gearbox !!!

it can be done alot cheeper than that, its a **** easy job to change a box in a impreza so 750 quid labour is well alot even if he has chucked in a 3 quid oil filter and 30 quid of oil IMO the labour for a gearbox fitting should be around 200 to 250 as its no different in time from a ford fiesta and alot easier than a vw sharan imo

im guessing theres more to it than that

recon a gearbox is a tough one considering i dont know what was wrong with it,,, though it does sound alot for new bearings and baulk rings

Aye, you're right, you don't know what was wrong with it.

I'm talking about a whole new gearbox. My old one basically gave up the goose over a period of time and after stripping down, was worth bugger all apart from the casing. API built me a full new gearbox for the £900 I quoted, and they got my knackered one back after posting the new one to Rotherham.

The £750 quoted by Jase included an uprated exedy clutch, the removal and stripping/diagnosing of the dead gearbox, then fitting of the new gearbox posted by API. And the full service incuded plugs, all fluids etc etc.

I was quite happy with the price (and very happy with the service from API and Scoobybits) considering quotes elsewhere were over £2k

(Oh and we all know how you work with parts etc, and how many companies you deal with - you've mentioned it a few times in the past )

Yes that box will be compatible with your rear diff

Wurzel is right
Any TY754VN should fit(compatibale with the rear diff). TY754VB wont.
A good route is to call grade A breakers in Manchester - Quote the year and make of your scoob and get them to supply a TY754VN box. They bench test the boxes - the ones I have had from them have worked fine. Of course the real condition of it cant be acertained unless it is opened up. (so a slight risk is involved)

Whatever you do dump the TY752 as it is a far weaker box (the casing is weaker)

Steve

Mate if you are looking to replace your gearbox it would be better to source a TY754 box instead of replacing the chocolate box you currently have. I ran my TY754 my00 box with 350ps and 497NM of torque without problems.

I have no idea if that box you stated will fit. Try contacting David at API or any of the other tuners or breakers on here.
