get one built ratehr than second hand is my advise, the cost isn't that much more so you'll get a warrenty.
i've had mine in the car for 18 months ish with no issues at all.
i'd advise going out in a car with one before you buy to make sure you can get on with the noise ok though

cheers good to hear from people who use them rather than just sell them sort of new the prices what i would be looking at tempted buy a six speed conversion as well but i have an exedy twin plate fitted and dont think it will work on the six speed so buy the time i change the clutch it will prob work out the same money for the 5 speed ppg plus it will be lighter

mate had a 6 speeder in his classic and hated the change in ratio's, he bought a type r and hated them in that too, now gone to a p1 box due to the longer legs

look on the scooby clinc web site.. think they're about £3000ish about the same as a six speed conversion. With regards to the six speed their are afew variations such as uk and sti.. sti has a shorter ratio kind of like the type-r's.. but depends what your after... also dccd with sti's

lol, clinic built mine by the way.
on a slight side note, i've been reading an article about cryogenic freezing, for the cost (£150 for a gear set) might be worth looking at having done before the kits goes in a the box. suposed to make the more wear resistant and a bit stronger (assuming there not done at manufacture)

Ric at RE motorsport has a good selection of gears he can have made, and if you break 1 at any time in the future you can just get that 1 made. my gear box, 1st gear straight cut rest of gears helicle but chunky hard as hell ones, gear box now dog box, see Ric for prices

Get a six speed. Far far stronger than a PPG. Cheaper and your twin plate Exedy WILL work with it no problems.
Most of the big power boys are now running six speeds after repeatedly breaking PPG gear sets.
If you're worried about ratios get a box from a 2.5 STI which has longer ratios. Will still work out cheaper than a PPG and be stronger.

I have the PPG Helical cut
Bloody noisy though - API though I had a straight cut in mines that noisy
Synchro also more of a pain, especially on track getting the bast'rd to change gears
And I dont like the sound it makes changing into 4th........... but its always sounded like the gearbox is on its way out........
But it hasnt gone yet and its done several track days..... more than can be said for, lets see
Head Gaskets going
Exhaust Manifold Flanges warping
Up-pipe gaskets
AP Brakes discs warping
(I'm sounding bitter)
Std sti gearbox lasted many years at 450+ but I dont do the launches and event days, just track days....... Brands hatch (nasty ****ty Indie circuit killed the g/box once and for all)
If I could go back in time I'd have the sti gearbox reconditioned and wait for it to go again, with the cost of the PPG fitted the sti gearbox would have to go many times
I wouldnt go for the 6 speed because the ratio's are not as good in the lower gears and its a lot, lot heavier so no use for track as I'd need more power to make up for the extra weight!

Depends on power your going for i'd say ?
Ive got a PPG Straight cut box on mine and its mainly a drag car and it hasnt missed a beat at 415bhp 360lbs/ft, most of my launches are 6000rpm+
In 4th gear i can get to 125mph, so better for drag aswell, as with a 6speed it would have been another gear change wouldnt it ???

Morbs has a six speed and is in low 10's territory on the quarter.
It's becoming a bit of a myth that the six speeds arent good for drag work. Admittedly the 5 speeds are more suited but the later 6 speeds have much longer ratios.
The six speed is pretty much a fit and forget solution for most people.

same as , 4 years ive had mine running 450-478 bhp , with a 2500cc, so loads of torque , 500+ launches . only thing i've broke is fork selectors, but i blame the driver for that lol
