What the heck is this?
Have had clutch problems (possibly slipping) and while checking it out, spotted this down beside the wheel arch (passenger side - the right as you look into the engine bay from the front)
'96 Impreza 2.0L Sport 'wagon'
Cable 'A' comes from the clutch lever, attached the opposite way to the clutch cable.
Pipes 'X' and 'Y' run along the bulkhead, and disappear behind the brake master cylinder.
Other end of cable 'A' attaches to the clutch lever here....
The adjuster nut behind the lever is very loose - maybe about 5 complete turns available before it even comes up against the back of the lever.
So...
A couple of questions...
What the heck is the thing that cable 'A' is attached to, and what does it do?
Is it possible that adjusting that nut on the lever end of cable 'A', may cure my (slightly) slipping clutch?

it's the hill holder mechanism, when you come to a hill where you have to stop on it hold the clutch right down and then press the brakes and then release the brakes but still hold the clutch pedal down it should hold it's self there then when you move off as the clutch pedal gets to the biting point it should release the brakes and you drive off as normal.
all this though does depend on the hill holder being set up right in the first place!

Ah-ha......
Suddenly that little light's gone on in my head.....
Should've realised that straight away
I read about the 'Hill-hold' in the owner's handbook - and Yep! - It does work.
Cheers SB
Fact that it's connected to clutch, AND brakes was a BIG clue - LOL
