Newbie - Clutch slipping...??
Hi - new to Subarus
Have had a '96 Impreza sport 'wagon' - 2.0 non-turbo, for about a month.
Noticed a few days ago, if I put my foot down hard in a high gear, revs climb quickly, maybe by 600-800 revs, then the car kinda 'catches up'
A bit like the 'kickdown' on an auto car, but not so pronounced.
Have also tested on a hill in 4th - from 2,000 revs, foot down hard, shoots up to 2,700-2,800, then car catches up, and after that, revs climb pretty much with, the speed of the car.
On a not so steep hill, in 5th , I've seen revs wavering up and down, as the car speeds up gradually.
Oh - and doesn't always happen - sometimes the revs just climb with the car's speed.
Is this the beginning of the end for my clutch..?

Thanks Proby - but I think I may have cured it....
Adjusted the pedal 'up' a bit, and noticed some 'play' on the lever coming out of the clutch housing.
I could push it further back, by hand, than it was returning on it's own with a loose cable.
Experimentally tied on some elastic to pull it all the way back when pedal is released...
Hey Presto - no more slippage.
Maybe now get a spring, as a better 'fix'

Update.....
I've found an exploded diagram of the clutch mechanism.
On this pic, item 10, the 'return spring'
Looks like it attaches on the top end of the lever. right beside where the cable slots through....
My car has no spring - or at least, when I was investigating today, there was no sign of one.
I'm guessing this has been my problem.
