I have a 1995 WRX import
the gear box crunches on 5th
does anyone know how much i would be looking at spending to have it rebuilt and how much work would be involved

also
the mechanic i had look at the car after buying it found there to be no oil in the gear box......

is there a chance the gear box may be more damaged than i think?

You're not too far away from us to have a ride up and let us road test it and give an opinion.

How much oil did the mecchie put in after there was ' no oil ? '

They take 4 or more litres and would be singing out loud if it had none.

The 5th gear synchro is a weak point and it may be that just old age is catching up to it.

Worst case is a recon box from us at £600 + VAT with a 6 months / 6000 mile warranty. Fixing just 5th gear would be rather less, if it will be enough.

My car does exactly the same, only crunches in 5th. But it doesn't always do it. Mine is also a 95 import.

Have you had yours looked at yet?
