Default 2001 JDM STI Gear Box Question??

Hi guys,

I posted a question alreaddy about this but cannot find it???

I have just bought a 2001 JDM STI with only 27000 genuine miles!!

I am very happy with the car and it drives very tight and feels like new!

The guy i bought it from built gearboxes for a living and he was very honest. He told me if he was to be very picky teh only thing he thinks would improve the car is to replace the i think he said bushes on the gear linkages?? However, he said on this model you have to drop the gear box to get to them. Is this true and if so how much approximately would it cost to do??

After driving the car for a while i must admit thegear box feels very notchy and stiff. It is worse when trying to down shift??

It is not really bad but i can feel it. I am used to driving a WRX and i know they have a different gear box completely?

Is this normal for an STI?? Maybe it is just me and it will take some getting used to??

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

I think what your trying to describe is normal. The gear changes should feel like they click into place and there should be some resistance when going into gear.

No it's not common on a 6 speeder. The shift is [ should be ] silky smooth.

Probably worth getting someone who knows Subaru well, to check it over and see what's up.

Where are you in the country and we can advise you who to go see.

Was this the silver one in Lancashire you bought?
