Default Clutch Cylinder Problem

Hi

Changed a few parts on my MY96 WRX and went to start car and clutch pedal dissapeared into the footwell and never returned!!!

After pumping the pedal, and pulling back by hand, I could see that clutch fluid was spurting everywhere from the clutch cylinder. I've removed the intercooler and cylinder and discovered the rod that feeds out of the cylinder was not in the hole on the release fork, and the rubber hood had been forced off the cylinder.

I've pushed the rod back and refitted the rubber, pressed the clutch pedal in and rehoused the rod into the release fork. However the cylinder totally retracts and pulls the rod back out of the release fork

Any ideas anyone?

Also the release fork can be pushed without much resistance all the way forward, so much so that the spring is loose and falls out.
