While giving my car the once over I spotted a very small amount of oil that had leak fom the turbo to intercooler pipe (see pic if i can get it to up load) the pipe will need to be replaced as ther is obviously a small hole /split, but why is there oil leaking from it, albeit a very small amount, shouldn't the pipe just carry air/boost and not any oil?

There's no sign of any smoke from the exhaust, at idle or while drivining.

Is my turbo on the way out, does this mean I have an excuse to buy a bigger blower!

Any suggestion or comments welcome - PLEASE

Thanks

Pete

Have you had the car recently serviced?

I have and have noticed the same thing on my MY00. Cleaned it all off and nothings come back... Perhaps they changed oils.

Can anyone confirm?

I changed the oil about a month ago, the picture above shows it after I cleaned it, It was more of a spray pattern before, as if the oil had been forced out under pressure.

Its only a small leak but where the oild coming from and why?

Haa!!

Exactly the same place as my MY98 is spraying from! I believe that it is the oil that leaks through the turbo bearing seal and into the induction system.

We have a slight air leak in the seal between the turbo outlet pipe and the intercooler, and the oily air from the turbo condenses with the pressure drop as it escapes through the leak.

I know it is common for turbos to leak some oil in this manner, but don't know how much is normal, or whether the amount req'd to produce our symptoms is abnormal.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

Phew at least I'm not alone, I think a set of Samco's may be the next step to cure the leak and further probs but , does anyones else know how much oils a turbo uses/consumes?

it could also be because the crankcase and heads vent back into the induction system just after the MAF and ahead of the turbo, this is to control emmissions, this leaves oily deposits in the intercooler, some people fit catch tanks to circumvent this
