Syncros have gone on 4th and 5th, and i have been quoted £700 to take out the box replace them with uprated ones and put back in job done.
What do you think of the price?

That isn't out of order, I checked it against our cost to do the job and it comes in very much the same.

However l am not aware of ' uprated ' synchro's available for any UK box There is only one choice - straight from the Subaru parts list

The ones on the TY752 [ up to 99 ] are much cheaper than the TY 754 [ 99 on ] and they are not interchangeable. 752 type circa 20 quid for new - 754 type circa 125.00 for new.

The orice will rise steeply though if you need a new synchro hub slider or a gear which could both conceivably, be damaged.

Good Luck David APi

David thanks for reply. Out of interest whats the rough price of a six speed conversion? Because having this repaired might be false economy, as i am running about 310/310..

A 6 speed conversion will end up at about £2500 - £3000 + VAT depending upon type of 6 speeder IE UK type or JDM.

I was offered a UK 6 speeder by a breaker in the week at £2400.00, as just the box, no fittings, or prop or anything. A bit dear that.

At your power level a proper rebuild of what you have, will be enough, no need to get complicated or expensive.

A properly rebuilt TY754 - or a very low mileage one, is good for 380 -ish maybe a bit more with a sympathetic driver, [ As opposed to a pathetic driver ]

Anything above that is getting distinctly dodgy.

depends how far ' a bit further ' is really.

David, if you look up the thread "6 speed conversion" you posted the price of the work as £2100.00 + VAT with a 6 months / 6000 miles whichever sooner warranty - This was on the 10th of september this year and for a uk 6 box

( you've also said 2150 + vat but i aint gonna argue over 50 quid )

Are you saying 2500 + vat is the new price for fitting a 6 speed box? thats up almost 500 quid ???

seems as though i can afford this.. sometimes.

Firstly take a look at exchange rates. It is costing me 17% more to buy anything in Japan than it was 6 months ago. I'm not complaining, as l have lived through exchange rate problems ever since we started APi in 1982. lt is just so frustrating that my type of business is at the mercy of some merchant ****** [ sorry banker ] who decides to set the market alight with his own antics.

Then; Jdm boxes are going up in price all the time in any case, as OZ & NZ and so on are buying them now too. Mr Okamoto - APi Japan, used to get me ten at a time every 3 months. Now we only get about 4 every 6 months. I have 4 or five in a container that docks today - all are currently spoken for, depending upon type, when we unpack.

£2100 or £2150 is a straight price for Uk 6 spd box into a UK car. Then you get JDM boxes into a UK car that need a back diff, so anywhere from 2500.00 on, depending upon whether or not you need to replace a drive shaft or two to match the diff.

THEN you get JDM boxes with Dccd into something/ anything and that would/could be £3000 ish plus, depending upon rear diff spec and driveshafts and so on.

I don't like quoting prices publicly like mattster asked, as it leads to confusion like, " BUT you said last week " as in this post here. There are too many model variations of this conversion, to be able to say they all cost £X

It really deserves a quote for every individual case.
