Ive just had an exedy lightened flywheel and exedy organic clutch fitted and theres an annoying rattle when in gear but not when on the power as though something is loose,say im slowing down still in gear it rattles.It goes fine with no whine or crunch but it just rattles any ideas

Just got my exedy (pink clutch) and lightweight flywheel from BOB put in and its doing exactly the same as explained above.

any help on this would be great thanks.

hmm thats interesting....wonder if its because they are uprated

I read on another forum that its due to the lightweight flywheel and theres nothing to worry about. ive pm'd Bob to see what he says.

Any clutch, not just Exedys, can cause this noise sometimes, on some cars.

It is technically called 'clutch thrash' and is caused by an inter-action between the lack of flywheel weight and the harder springs in the centre plate of the clutch. When I was at Ford many years ago it was caused by loose springs in their locations in the centre disc. Trying to tighten up the 'pinch ' of the casing onto the springs is nearly impossible as the steel of the centre disc is remarkably springy and difficult to reshape.

There does not seem to be a cure for it and annoyingly, some cars do it and others don't.

I seem to remember that there was a whole lot of stuff on NASIOC a while back and their conclsuion was that it seems unavoidable and if you get it hard luck and if you don't, you've done well.

There is nothing actually wrong and whilst it is a noise that you may prefer not to have, l have no better idea of how to fix it than anyone else. Replacing the clutch, because you hope to get a better one, may actually get you a worse one.

It does generally quieten in time.

phew........well im just glad its nothing serious.Ill just have to put up with it,luckily ive got a loud stereo!

i have the same clutch and flywheel its nothing get worry abouts, mine is going SLOWLY you learn to live with it

Also a solution - Turn the Radio up/ louder Backbox HAHA

I have the same thing and Xtreme Scoobies said its a little movement in the clutch bearing basically when its not under power it moves a tiny bit and so rattles when off the power. Sounds quite nasty but apparently its quite common and nothing to worry about.
