Weird transmission problem???
Hi guys
We do have a weird transmission problem right now and maybe someone here knows more about it.
The transmission was replaced with an STi 5 speeder.
Now we drive around and everything works good but after like 45min of driving we are not able to shift anymore. Only 2nd gear works.
So we let the car standing there and after cooling down it all works fine again.
What is this???
Help is much appreciated.
Thanks

That sounds very strange.
if its due to how long its been on and running for then it will be due to temperatures.
If only second gear is working it could be that it is the least worn gear out of the lot.
i've never heard of a problem such as this.
when you say you cannot shift, do you mean you cannot get out of gear, or you cannot put it into gear?

Could it be the wrong oil? The oil could be the wrong type, so when it warms up and becomes the set viscosity it could be too thin or thick.
Obviously as the oils properties change, this will have a noticeble effect on the gear change.
In reference to second gear, perhaps that gear is the least worn so least affected by the incorrect oil??
You could try new oil in the box?
You may even find lots of metal filings when you drain the oil
Obviously this is a total guess but i can't think what else it is
