Urgent Clutch fitting Question

Hi
I'm in the middle of converting my Legacy GTB from an Automatic to manual, I have an UK Impreza Turbo standard clutch and gearbox.
Doe the release lever fit into the clips on the release bearing (which is permannetly attached to the pressure plate) and if so how do you fit it before attaching the gearbox to the engine
