Had the scoob now for 2 weeks, all ok (grin factor etc etc)
Since the 1000 mile service i have noticed a burning smell (not all the time, only twice) hav'nt had a chance for a good burnout yet, so its not that. seems to be a sort of rubbery/oil type smell. im thinking maybe a bit of oil spilt during service?
Just a little worried (new babe) if u know what i mean.
Ideas enyone
Cheers Steve

Steve,
Don't know if it's relevant, but I had a thread in drivetrain about nasty smells a couple of months ago...
I've covered 4,500 miles now, but I still get a TERRIBLE burning smell with any kind of heavy clutch play in reverse (i.e. reverse hill starts). My old dear's Forester does the same thing.
Was told it's "normal"...
I try hard not to rev it up like a granny , but it still happens, although is much less "pungent" now than when I first noticed it at 1000 miles.
eM.

Steve I have had similar smells when car has been for hard run and then when stationary smell from engine.
There was a thread recently in drivetrain about smells , It could be weeping rocker cover on drivers side . Do a check in the forum.
I am getting garage to reseal the cover/gasket at the next service.
That said your smell could be something completely different and unrelated !

Steve,
Sounds like it may possibly be clutch slip.
The smell from that is vsimilar
Happens on mine (older scoob) when rev it to high reversing onto
4 poster ramps (can`t get it on forwards, too low).

had same prob with mine and i woz also a tad worried . took it to garage and found that crank shaft oil seal woz split and woz leaking small amounts of oil onto the exhaust, hence the burning smell through the heater - especially when stationary.
part woz £5.00 excluding labour, 100 nicker roughly.

Had prob with WRX Wagon. Not long after service. Pungent smell of burning oil when getting out of car but never any oil on ground even after long tick over. George @Falkland (who did NOT carry out original service)knew immediately it was a small drip from cam cover rubber insert onto exhaust manifold. Sorted no prob. Hope this helps.

I have had burning smells on and off.
In my case and after speaking to others it is usually always leaking something droping onto the hot exhaust. In my case the something is power steering fluid. Not usually serious but just smells serious. Get it checked out though
Cheers
