Horrible, horrible noise - DCCD-A
Was driving (2005 STI) the other day and it was snowing, so I dropped the DCCD from Auto to two lights down from "Lock".
My theory was that the drive was a bit more evenly spread out with a bit more front bias.
Anyway.....I came to a junction where I had to turn right and when I turned, the noise from the (I assume) diff was fooking terrible. It sounded almost like a driveshaft was banging on the floor or something......a really metallic and mechanical sounding noise.
I know that having more front bias will cause the diff to "wind up" when turning, but it was snowing and there was a good covering on the road, therefore it was not very grippy.
Is this noise normal??? Doesn't sound right at all.

You will get that on a dccd in a 5 speed box.
Not sure if that helps, but i think the basic function is the same. To drive with the dccd so close to locked will really strain the trans with wheel grip.
Be quite different@ 2 lights from open, but you will still feel/hear the trans fighting.

If you get that noise/feeling wind the diff back (towards diff free) until you don't get the noise/juddering, as above you probably had more grip than you thought.
