Over the weekend I managed to marginally overfill with oil. It seems that this may not be a good thing - exploding number 3 cylinders, etc. Is there a cunning method of removing just a little easily?
It's probably in here somewhere, but the search thingy still isn't working

Nope.

You have two options.

1) carefully remove the drain plug and control (hah) the amount of oil you drop (up your arm).

2) Drop the lot into something "sterile" and re-fill with the correct amount.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I thought it might be something like that. I'm going to go with trying to slime my arm with the overfilled amount, closely followed by changing the oil entirely, I think.

No problem.

We dropped the oil on a customers car last week and managed to squeeze (approx) 8.5 litres out of it!
