Question

Hi all!

I was wondering what's the theoretical max output the engine (in my case a MY01, but it's the same)can tolerate without incurring in upgraded pistons and transmission modifications.

Cheers

How long do you want the standard internals to last?

My engine lasted for 20 thousand miles from a rebuild with internals that are essentially uk standard. The engine was running a good 300+bhp / 300 ft lb.

Quite why my STI engine was rebuilt with these parts after it's failure is a mystery, I suspect it probably saved money for the company involved, probably.

Anyways, you really need to consider the useful service life you want from the engine when asking how much you can push the standard internal components. You can get 300bhp+ from standard bits, but if you run enough boost to make 300ftlb torque then you are pushing the limits and may, like me, end up with a snapped rod taking out the block, several pistons, damaging the heads and generally writing off the short engine, which is NOT cheap to replace.
