Question

My recently acquired MY00 came with a LINK ECU and Blitz stainless steel air filter (both unfitted).

At the moment, the car has an ITG panel filter and Scorpion d/p with Janspeed centre section and back box. I've also got a Lambda Link fitted and Boost gauge.

What I was wondering was should I fit the LINK and Blitz filter to my car, and if so what sort of further expense will this involve and what sort of benefits will I see?

I'm tempted just to sell the LINK ECU to fund other things, but don't want to get rid of it and then realise that I really should have fitted it Also from reading other threads, the Blitz filter seems like it might prove troublesome?

If I do decide to get rid of the LINK ECU, what sort of price should I be asking for it?

Any replies much appreciated

the person that works with Bob Rawle, told me that they only map units that they sell and if I sourced it anywhere else, they would take nothing to do with the mapping.

...so he hasn't learned anything yet...

I'm very sorry for you mate, but this is nothing new, last time I had a few bouts with him it ended up with them agreeing to map my 2:nd hand link (which had been sourced from BRD in the first place).

If Bob's fully booked I can see where he's coming from, otherwise I cannot understand what they're accomplishing by basically telling customers to FO.

Jerry, the incident you refer to had two sides to it and you were also pretty obnoxious if I recall, I read the exchanges of mail you had with B ... all of them. In the end you made a firm date to get your car sorted ... then cancelled with no notice .... I call that pretty rude ... especially as I personally had made special arrangments to meet up with you ... your self proclaimed source of origin seems very apt at times.

The_Gza

I would try and find out the history of the ecu, ie was it mapped for the car, does it only have the default map, what chip level is in it etc. If you fit a programmable ecu to a car that it was not mapped for then you will risk damaging your engine. Despite what you read we would be delighted to install and map your ecu for you, all we ever must know is the ecu's history. Most ecu's in the Uk originated with us in any case and we are pleased to support the second hand market. It is also quite true that it is not policy to work with product that was "imported" privately ... many companies have this policy including the likes of Motec etc, it comes about when manufacturers have agreements with distributors ... but we are always willing to consider an approach .. depending on how it is made eh Jerry ?

I would not recommend that you use the Blitz filter, filtration levels are poor and will almost certainly cause maf failure..

Bob

Let me start off with this...I have no gripes at all with you Bob, it's your partner that started off that old mess.
I also recommend YOU to all people based in the UK, that asks me for info on the Link.

Regarding my experience...
After basically being told I was a fool, and after being told off on numerous occations, and almost getting my 2 friends into trouble, the tone in my emails was dragged down to the same level, how would you have reacted? I fire if fired upon mate...

I even explained to the fella after the first abusive response from him, that me NOT being English didn't make things any easier (with the risk of me being rude without knowing it).

I don't think you saw all the mails going either way did you?
It's truely unfortunate that I didn't save the emails (I was extremely irritated at the time), would have made for interesting reading.

As I said, even my FRIENDS got into trouble, and had him calling up them (I was there at the moment, I could hear what he was saying - 6 ft away from the cellphone), yelling and being an outright ****, telling them he wasn't going to help them anymore - just because of my little problem (this all happened while you were on leave around May last year) - all this due to me asking if I could recieve the same sort of service as them (to get the link installed, and sort the map "by email").

You are no1 at the Link, and you know it....but somehow your partner manages to **** people off left and right...but hey...it's prolly just us numerous potential customers...

Anyway...back to the topic (sorry abt the rant).

P.S.
IIRC my obnoxious email contained somehting like "do you always treat potential customers like this"...and the response told me that I wasn't a customer yet, and should be happy if I ever was to be one.

Guys - thanks for the info so far

T-uk - I'll probably bring it with me to the RR day but no guarantees I'll be selling it yet unless you make me an offer I can't refuse

Jerry - Thanks for the info - sorry to hear about your problems but at least you have some large BHP at the end of it

Bob - Thanks for the reply. AFAIK it hasn't been set up for my car at all. I think it was previously on another car so I would guess its not on the default map either. How would I check which level of chip I have?

Cheers

Bob Rawle,

thanks for clearing that up regarding 2nd hand ECU mapping,I was in no way having a go at you or BRD just how I understood the situation to be.

I looked through my old E-mails and have copied this paragraph,

"Finally, please be advised that our company does not supply engine management systemt to members of the public to map the engine themselves. If that would be your intention, you will need to acquire the products from alternative sources and we would not be able to get involved in mapping of your engine".

I have no issue with your colleague, his whole E-mail was polite and professional.

Yep a very rude ignorant little man !!!!

Although he did say they would map a 2nd hand link providing it came from BRD, but I would have to wait a few months...

I'm sorry fellas for hijacking this thread.
I've just got to clarify one thing (really wanted to leave this one alone) - I wasn't out to save on the mapping - your partner put me in a very awkward position where I'd have to either swallow my pride (no chance in hell), or try to sort other means of getting mapped.
I chose the latter alternative, and I even offered to pay Mark, but he wouldn't let me - and I owe him bigtime.

The thing that upset me most was Branko calling up my friend and telling him off...I can defend myself, but I felt really bad for getting them into any possible trouble.

Again, I really wish the best of luck for you - but IMHO you've got a major problem with BRD and the way more than a few "potential customers" have been treated (it isn't just me).

Regards

/J

Well maybe it should be left Jerry, as you say its your view and you are entitled to hold it, just as I. If you want to continue then please mail me off line and I would be pleased to hear more of your thoughts on the subject ... we should leave this thread to its topic and I still have an inbox of email to deal with before I finish tonight ... enough said by me.

cheers

The link is a *very* nice addition to your MY00...expect power to go up to around 250+ (torque somewhere in the same region) - with an exhaust and some tinkering it'll be staying with the jap versions.

Add a turbo to that....

Bob Rawle at BR Developments is the fella to have a chat with (and if his associate manages to **** you off - this is more than likely I'm afraid , tread cautiously with him), contact me offline and I'll see what I can do for you.

MY00
Link (installed and mapped myself, with a few handy pointers from a few VERY nice fellas)
IHI VF24 (installed that one myself as well )

Forgot to mention that the argument between me and mr X ended up with countless hours reading and studying, and installing it myself.

Noone gets away with being rude 2 yours truely....well...maybe Chiark...Chuck and a few other muppets.

Jerry, you are entitled to your views, the rest of you all speak out from time to time, so it should be no suprise when I say my two penneth, I think maybe I am just as entitled but don't believe in normally shouting the odds, still ... this is old ground. Potential customers ... everyone is that, problem is with expectations ... we all do it, ring up some company and expect gold star service for nothing ... its the same all over. Emotion is strange and runs high at times, especially when special circumstances exist such as you describe Jerry, at the time you were promoting yourself as a potential "do it yourselfer" and, appeared ready to dive into your friends maps.

In practice that didn't happen as I understand it.

Since you got Mark to map your car for free then I'm sure you felt good about not spending the money, no issue with that, we all look out for a way to save a buck, MY point was not concerned with that.

Oh and no one is No 1 in this world ... no one at all, there is always someone out there potentially better, trick is to try and stay ahead eh?. At least it makes life interesting ...

cheers

edited to also get back to the point.

The ecu has a micro controller chip on it (back left corner looking at connectors), this should have a white label affixed which will contain an identification code of some sort, the sure way is to read the chip software revision which will then confirm that. A version 5 ecu chip should read something like WRX99? then under that 775. The question mark will be a letter denoting the revision level ie K, L etc (even OY)
