Default Slipping clutch = new clutch?

Hi all, i have a MY2003 WRX and the clutch has been slipping badly in the last weeks, especially around and after the 3.500 rpm mark.
My question is.... do i need to change the whole clutch (plate etc...) or just changing the clutch disc is enough?

Any suggestions on what clutch to get (price/quality wise)?
I don't need anything fancy, since i give the car a regular street use.
Thanks in advance for any help

Exedy would be a good choice - better clamping force but fine for road use. All you will need is the clutch itself - they will prob re-skim the flywheel

What sort of mileage have you got?
With normal, gentle use, the clutch can become contaminated with dust and also become glazed. A couple of fast starts may clean the friction plate. Worth a try?

Thanks L33 and John

I have about 43.000 miles on the WRX.
Is this a normal mileage for changing the clutch?

I could try that "cleaning" method, but my fear is to completely kill the clutch before i can drop the car at the garage

Do I assume you bought it "pre-used" If so, you won't know the habits of the previous owner so, 43k is not unusual, unfortunately! (EVO's are the same - maybe worse!)

Yes, you're right. I bought it pre-used about 2,5 years ago.
And like i was thinking, 43k miles should be "normal" in these cars.
Oh well.....

So, where can i order a good (but not expensive) clutch kit for a MY 2003, online?

Two this to consider

1) it may not be clutch (but highly likely)

2) if slipping bad with subaru power doesn't take to long to **** a flywheel. So £250- 350 for renew or £60-100 for skimming

reason for 1) It's rare but see here EXEDY Clutch Europe Ltd - Sports Clutch basically "C" clips can come off drive shafts and you get 3 wheel drive and not clutch slip

Thanks T5.

That's a possibility.
I read the pdf you posted on your thread, and that can be my problem. Like i said the slipping only occurs around and after the 3.5 K RPM mark
