Are you talking about shorter gearing or a short shift box?
If you are talking about shorter gearing then think this one out seriously first based on what roads you are on the most. In my first scoob I had a standard WRX box/diff, a taller UK box/diff and an insanely short RA box/diff. I do 20-30 mins every day at motorway speeds and the RA box is simply pants imo at those speeds unless you like buzzing along at 80 etc at stupidly high revs in 5th . An import WRX/STI box would be the best compromise imo unless things have changed and they aren't a nice mix between UK gearing and RA gearing like on my early classic?

I changed my UK MY99 Turbo box for an STI 5 box (same as P1), must admit it is nicer to drive as 4th and 5th are noticably shorter than the UK box
IIRC the UK box is geared to 175mph at 7000rpm the P1 box is geared to 155mph at 7000rpm. As I am hardly ever going to reach those speeds it makes sense for me to have the P1/STI box.
All info was found here:

If you look at post #20 you can see that the first three gears of the UK and P1/STI5 box are more or less the same however 4th and 5th are noticibly shorter.

If you are after a shorter gear ratio box then I may have something for you, its a STI RA box that will have the correct front diff and centre diff to be a direct swap into yours.

my first scooby was a 93 type ra and to be honest it was a pain in the **** if you are gonna use motorways 80- 85 at about 5000rpm .great fun on back road blast.
think long and hard as when i had the ra i was gonna sell the car as i started doing a lot of motorway work and it simple isn't suited to this kind of work imo and god could it use fuel with it revving the engine a lot higher than a uk box at these speeds

Yep, some of the early RA's had stupidly high gearing with 4.44 diffs etc.
My one has 3.9 diffs and with the current ratios the gears are pretty much identical to 1-5 of a UK 6 speed box, which is something like 75mph at 4000 rpm
