Getting a downpipe soon and don't know what to get.

The magnex is cheaper than most. I don't fancy paying over £200 for what is basicly a bit of metal tube.

Also I can't see how one downpipe is going to be that different from the rest, if its just abit of tube and the angle of the bend on the pipe is the same as it leaves the turbo are the same.I think the single or twin may give different results.
Has any one tried this type.

Just had Magnex twin dump fitted, with no other mods there was no more power but the turbo came in quicker so it felt faster. Sounded better too. I don't think the twin dump offers any benefit over a single outlet, if you look at the wastegate and the angle it opens to (approx 30 degrees) , all the exhaust is diverted to the area of the main pipe anyway. It's the reduced backpressure from having no cat that helps the turbo spin up. I got magnex because it was cheapest.

cc - I can't believe you think you haven't got any extra power

I had a magnex centre with no resonator and BB which had made the car rev a bit free-er and pull to the red line a bit better. I then added the Magnex DP and WOW!!! The car absolutely flies now, it pulls like a train all the way to the red line now. You can hear the turbo and wastegate much more now and the turbo starts spooling around 2k. It is a great deal more powerful and faster since fitting. I was only just loosing ground on a P1 from a roundabout up a dual carriageway and several mates were with me, in other scoobs, who will testify we were both giving it some. Another mate with an WRX STi Type R said my car was very quick and was only getting ground on me in 4th gear around 90.........

In short - get one - its the biggest power increase you can easily do The magnex needs a little work, eg. modifying a gearbox bracket and a little heatsheild trimming but otherwise fits snug. And its got a lifetime warranty.

Hope that helps (BTW - Mines the twin dump Magnex not the older single pipe one)
Cheers
Neil.

Cool

Neil

I wasn't sure if the Magnex was single or twin until your post Neil, can't seem to find a pic or anything and I've looked at the Magnex web site. Does it look cheaper than the other brands?

One thing I don't fancy is arsing about with a gearbox bracket, doesn't sound easy. Mine's a '00 model (the last old shape made) so it might be slightly different to yours.
Is it big job?
Has anyone else had to mod the car to get the Magnex to fit?

Falkland put their/Magnex's new twin dump on my MY00 in 1 3/4 hours. Brilliant. And not too loud with the right BB. Almost as much difference as a PPP again.

Merry Christmas Mr Bumcrack,

I had the Magnex fitted to my MY98 Terzo about 4 months ago and would say that it was the most cost effective mod I have made. It certainly isn't the best mod, but for under £200 it is certainly worth it and if you want anything else doing at a later date it is a must.

I'm not sure that it gave a massive increase in power, however it makes the car responde far quicker. The turbo seems to kick in much easier (less lag) and therefore gives you the power much more quickly. Therefore quicker acceleration. Oh and the noise - very sweet, but not over the top.

I picked the Magnex based on the price and the fact that the rest of my exhaust was already Magnex. I'm of the same school of thinking that there probably isn't a lot of difference between the different downpipes - therefore the least costly ( don't like the word cheapest) wins.

With regards to fitting I got mine put on at a local tuning specialist - they reported no problems getting it to fit. I have got to know them pretty well over the last year and they certainly would have told me if they had to start cutting / messing with heat shields etc.

An excellent buy for under £200 and I'm very happy.

Mr crack,

Been thinking about the dp for over 2 years and went through all the motions like yourself and opted for the magnex because of value for money £162 from www.motorsportworld.com,some of the other companies take the **** on the price for a bit of bent tube. The quality and finish is superb ,looks too good to put on me mota, thought about hanging it on the office wall instead,i haven't got around to fitting it yet so cant comment on that.
There is a piccy on the ggr web site but its a bit small.

Hi All - Hope you had a good xmas.

Mr Crack - You can tell if its a single as its just one pipe, the twin has a big pipe for the exhaust gases and a small one for the wastegate right next to the big pipe. It doesn't look any cheaper than the other brands and Magnex use a good quality stainless steel, and are certainly renouned for producing very good quality exhausts.
Babber warned me about the gearbox bracket and heatsheild, as he had one on his before I had mine done. Mine was fitted by Halfords and took them about 3 hours and they said the job was a bit of a pain but not too bad, due to the h/s and gb bracket. All Ripspeeds at Halfords should be able to supply the pipe. If yours is a MY00 it should be identical to my MY99 and thus you may find a bit of fiddling is required to get it on, but it shouldn't be too bad. BTW - Most aftermarket (or alot anyway) will require some trimming of the heatsheild, its not just the Magnex.

I bought the Magnex as that was what the rest of my system was and wanted to keep all the same make, price was an issue but I've been very happy with it for a lot less than some other aftermarket systems. It certainly has the performance......

Cheers
Neil

Wink

All,

Had a Scoobysports Downpipe fitted while my car was waiting for a OEM downpipe that was out of stock. This was whilst my car was hesitating and running like a bag of crap.

The difference is totally unbelievable, turbo spools at lower revs and the torque is fantastic. Transforms the car completely, although I still had ECU problems. The extra noise will stop you bothering to turn the ICE on.

If it wasn't for some tosser at ACL Autolease I would still have the little beauty on the car. The problems with my car have been resolved by fitting a MY99 ECU, but am putting pressure on the Fleet manager to cover my mods. The dealer is well practised in taking it off, putting it back on, etc.

Should get authorisation to fit it again so, and can't bloody wait.

Oh and as for the comment about the Downpipe as a office orniment, that isn't funny

Cheers Phill C

PS You will lose the dump valve hiss though, so maybe get a louder one
