For the last four years I've been letting my dealer put his recommended oil (currently 5W-40 mobil 1) in my Scoob (UK-spec Turbo) at services. This time around I'm thinking of supplying my own oil as a way of getting better quality oil for less money. I've followed most of the oil threads on here and Scoobynet over the years and there seems to be (correct me if I'm wrong) a general consesus that oils like Castrol RS 10W-60 (not the 0W-40), Motul 300V and Silkolene ProS are a good bet, with Mobil 1 0W-40 generally regarded as too thin and some people (my dealer included) suggesting that Mobil 1 15W-50 is too thick for general use, particularly in cold weather/climates, while others swear by it (and Mobil recommends them both for Imprezas).

I'm now trying to track down a source of supply for these oils and comparing prices. Strangely, one supplier recommended Motul 6100 rather than 300V for the Scoob, although this still weighed in at a fairly hefty 28.20 for 4 litres and the best part of 10 quid for delivery. Halfords only stock the 0W-40 variant of Castrol RS but are currently checking if they can special-order the 10W-60 for me, which should be a cheaper option considering they sell the 0W-40 for under 24 quid for 4 litres.

Anyone got any recommendations on where to get hold of these oils and what kind of costs are involved? Thanks in advance.

Demon Tweeks - and if you buy a lot you can get a discount.

Motul 300v
Castrol
AMS Oil

All the good stuff. Friend of mine describes Mobil Motorsport 15/50 as flushing oil - although that's what I have in at the moment!

** SHAMELESS PLUG **

Hi Mark,

Try calling Beech Hill Garage on 0118 988 4774, ask for Will.
They sell the Motul 300v 15/50, which is recommended for the scoob. ( A good bit cheaper than Demon Tweeks aswell... )

cheers,
Dave
