Default Quaife dog gearset

Hi

is anyone running one of these sets in a classic? I want the full 5 speed dog set and my other choice is PPG. Do not want 1-4 only as the car is very short geared for hillclimbs (mountain climbs) with big turbo and we use 5th gear very often. Standard 5th does not like 500 odd hp at 100mph.

I have noticed that most of the big name cars in UK run the PPG kit.I actualy have not herad of anyone running a Quaife gearset. Any reason why you do not choose the home grown product and go for the Aussie kit?

Price.

I was talking to a Quaife salesman on their stand at the autosport stand this year and asking him about how much it would cost to replace my gearset and what it was rated to power/torque wise. The price was getting on for twice as much as the PPG and as for the power/torque rating,.... he said "We don't rated our products that way". I then asked him if he would give me a simple yes or no on whether it would be ok on my cars power and he just shrugged and said he didn't know.

Ussless.

Quaif only do GrpN ratios, which are too short if you have a powerful car.

If you have 500bhp, I assume you also have good torque ? If this is the case, then you will easily pull longer gearing, and would rarely need to use 5th, just changing between 3rd-4th, and 2nd if you need it.

Thanks for pointing this out. If a company cant say what power should handle I am not interested. Have gone through pleanty of trouble with PAR kit that cant handle the power.

Had not realised how short Quaife ratios were With a 4.44 ratio and 205/40/17 tyres it is all over at 100 and 107 mph in 4th @ 8000 rpm and 130 and 139mph in fifth. I am running out of gears now as is, let alone go shorter. May be good on some of the slower, tight hillclimbs but absolute rubbish on the big bhp climbs and drag race. Currently finish 400 metres at 125 mph in 4th dont want to be in fifth.

Looking at the PPG ratios, seem to be setup as 4 speed with fifth for top speed runs. 4th would be good for 120 and 130 mph depending whether helical or strright cut gears.

Seems to be PPG.

I have the PPG straight cut dog 1-4 kit and 4.44 diffs and 4th is now good for 130mph, if not 135at 8k rpm - but then I have hardly ever pushed it past 7krpm to be honest with my current setup.

So I would think this would do you well.

Speak to Mark at Lateral Performance and I'm sure he'll do you a good deal on one
