Notchy change down to 4th and 3rd
Hi all,
I have a 96 RA import, strictly for track use. It's got a nasty engage mainly down into 4th and 3rd at higher revs. So much so that I stoppped useing 5th on a straight at donnington and bust the big ends
Anyhow, fixed that but want to sort the box. any idea's what it is? Could it be selector forks?
How easy is the box to tinker in?

Sounds more like the synchro.
However, on two boxes now, I have fixed the problem with a simple fluid change.
Try castrol syntrax gear oil, available from halfrauds. Really improves the shift quality, especially from cold.

Check oil level as above, and if needed replace with a high quality gear oil. I have a type r and from what i can gather, they all have notchy changes.
Its usually the 3/4th synchro that goes as well, although last time i had mine stripped there was nothing visibly wrong with it.

Thanks Guys,
Seems like a good oil change to start with.
It's probably more to do with the syncro as it struggles at high revs. When I say notchy, it's quite harsh and you can feel the gears.
I'll change the oil and let you know.
