Default Engine stuck on gearbox casing.

I've set out to try and change the clutch on my MY99 GT.
I've unbolted the engine from the gearbox (6 bolts and 2 studs) and pulled the shaft for the clutch fork and pulled it upp so it's loose and I can wiggle it around. The pitch stopper is off and the two engine mounts underneath are also off.
However the engine seems to have stuck to the gearbox casing after not beeing apart for almost ten years. I've pulled and banged as much as I've dared, but they just wont separate...

I tried to chisel them apart but that only semed to destroy the aluminium so I stopped...

How do I get the two apart?

Could there be anyting I've overlooked that could hold the two together?

You need to jack it up on the gearbox and use a screwdriver or alike to prize it apart. It will come off eventually

Working on subaru engines is a pain in the royal *** unfortunately

Dead right. Took me 2 hours of progressive 'wedging' to get it off the dowles and the galvanic corrosion of the steel dowles and the allot housings. Really perplexing. Many have been there!

Ok, thanks for the help.

I'm just afraid to damage the casing. It seems very delicate/brittle..

Cheers

Hi guys,

I had the engine out by monday night. Thanks for all the advice, it's much appreciated.

Another question regarding the clutch change: The manual says to apply grease to the slines (FX2200) and the shaft (Sunlight 2). Do I need to get these from Subaru, or could I use some other form of grease? If so, what kind, brand etc?

I machined a 1/10 mm off the gearbox side of the 2 dowls before refitting the box and greased everything inc the faces of the castings.

The box came out after 2 years in there with ease.

Oh, ok. Will think about that.

But I meant the splines of the main shaft and the shaft that goes in through the clutch fork. What sort of grease should I use on those?

I used a product called 'Coppaslip' here in the UK, but I would think a grease used for wheel bearings will be fine.
Just don't go mad on the input shaft splines-a smear is all you need on that and the pivot shaft.
