If it's just to get to the garage, I think "oil is oil" is the thing. Probably the cheapest is the best & don't do anything nasty to the car The first thing they'll do is dump it all anyway!

Dear All,
I have owned my MY96 UK Turbo (Prodrive backbox/suspension ITG panel filter) for 5 months now. Over the last 6 weeks or so I noticed she felt slower, thought this was just me getting used to it at first, but now its running a bit rough.
The problem I get is, the car is fine to about 4000 rpms and its like its got a rev limit, the turbo try’s to cut in but then the car just dies at 4000ish.
This is really noticeably in 3rd gear. I also noticed that when traffic slows (any thing below 70 ish) I have to go down a gear or two to get speed up again, it’s a bit like driving a brick really.
Any suggestions would be very welcome.
Cheers.
Ian.

Check the Oil Yesterday and its well below the minium and white a gungy.
My garage recommend I top it up with Castrol Magnetex and get down to let, but want oil do I go for, 10w/40 or 5w/30?.
Really need some help, don't want to blow it up.
Cheers.
Ian.

"white a gungy" isn't good. Well, not that bad, either, possibly . Water in the oil I think - blown head gasket is the most likely, which means you don't really want to drive on it & need to get it fixed ASAP, but I am not Mr Engine Knowledge. If it is that, shouldn't be too expensive, or not by itself anyway. There's a thread somewhere in here - gimme a mo... nope, can't find it.
Well, fat lot of good I am.

Might be worth having a quick look at the coolant as well (when cold). If there's oil in there, that might also indicate the head gasket.
